Questions about Speech Software

What is a speech recognition software and a text-to-speech software? Do I need them?
A speech recognition software is software comverts your voice sound into text so that can be recognized as input. A TTS (Text-to-Speech) software is a software that converts text information into voice sound so that your robot can speak to you.
You need them, but you do not have to buy either ones because if you use Microsoft Windows XP or Vista, your computer alredy have them. Or, if you can not fine them, there are free software available at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/speech-recognition.aspx. (if you don't use Windows you cannot use GoTalk)
Or, if you can not find them, there are free software available at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/speech-recognition.aspx.

I don't know how to use a speech recognition software and text-to-speech software.
Don't worry! It's not difficult. Please see Tutorial:Preparation and follow the instruction. You can also see Microsoft Windows Speech Recognition Page (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/speech-recognition.aspx) if you need.

Other than a speech recognizer and TTS, do I need something else?
If your computer does not have a speaker (if you enjoy youtube or media player, you have it!), you need one. Also you may need a microphone if your computer is not equipped with it. Please read your computer's documentations. A stand-type or a headset micrphone is recommended. Maybe you can find one priced less than $20 at Staples. Of course you need a robot and its software, too!
